Sustainability at Pohli
Responsibility with tangible results

At August Pohli GmbH & Co. KG, sustainability is not a stand-alone project, but an integral part of our day-to-day business management. Our aim is to combine environmental responsibility, social commitment and economic stability. To achieve this, we regularly review our operational processes, implement specific measures and continuously develop our sustainability activities.
Our environmental management system in accordance with DIN EN ISO 14001 provides a binding framework for these efforts. It ensures that environmental considerations are systematically incorporated into decisions and processes, responsibilities are clearly defined and progress is reviewed in a transparent and structured manner. Environmental management is now firmly embedded in our daily operations and actively supported by our employees within their respective areas of responsibility.
Many measures have already been successfully implemented. Our photovoltaic system generates a significant proportion of the electricity we require directly on our own premises. The solar power produced is used, among other things, to supply our warehouse and administrative facilities as well as electric forklifts and other vehicles. The switch to LED lighting, demand-based climate control, the use of modern heat pump technology and consistent waste separation also help us use energy and resources more efficiently and reduce operational emissions.
At the same time, we see sustainability as going well beyond environmental and climate protection. Safe working conditions, fair remuneration, training and professional development, health initiatives, mobile working and our JobRad® bicycle leasing scheme reflect our responsibility towards the people who work for our company. We also take responsibility beyond our own premises through our procurement practices, our cooperation with business partners and our commitment to education, culture, diversity and social organisations in the region.
We do not regard what we have already achieved as the end of the journey. Further opportunities, such as additional charging facilities for employees or the gradual electrification of our vehicle fleet, are carefully assessed in terms of both their environmental benefits and their operational feasibility. This enables us to develop solutions that are not only well intentioned, but also work reliably and sustainably in everyday business operations.
Our ambition is to operate sustainably in a way that can be measured by specific actions and demonstrable results. In doing so, we are creating reliable structures for the future – for our company, our employees, our business partners and the region in which Pohli has been firmly rooted for many years.
Below, we present measures implemented by August Pohli GmbH & Co. KG as well as initiatives that are currently under review.

Responsibility for the world of tomorrow! Already now!
Due to the processing of fossil fuels, the concentration of CO2 in the earth’s atmosphere has risen sharply since the beginning of industrialization. Thanks to many years of research and development work, it is now possible to produce bioplastics entirely or to a large extent from renewable raw materials, i.e. plants. The advantage is obvious: plants consume CO2 and thus make an effective contribution to reducing the greenhouse effect.
Another aspect is that the world’s oil reserves are finite and we should already be using alternatives to petroleum-based plastics. That is why we offer a large part of our range made from bioplastics as an alternative. These bioplastics are not only based on renewable raw materials, but some are also biodegradable.
Recycling is an alternative to conserving oil reserves. Glass packaging can be recycled as often as required without any loss of quality. The use of cullet is common practice in glass production. A positive side effect is that less energy is required for the melting process. But plastics can also be recycled and reused if they are collected separately. We therefore offer bottles and cans made entirely or partially from PCR material as a further alternative to sustainability. PCR stands for “post-consumer recycled”. By using these materials, you can save valuable resources and significantly improve your carbon footprint.
